Frequently Asked Questions

This is a collection of questions we frequently get asked (or should I say 'sometimes' get asked)

How can I make a booking?

Bookings can be made online through this website,  Availability is always uptodate and you can complete booking and payment online.

We market through other methods but booking direct will invariably be the lowest cost.

How much is the deposit and when is the balance due?

A 35% deposit is paid at the time of booking and your booking authorises us to transact the balance 12 weeks prior to arrival.

We will email you a few days before taking the balance payment to remind you of the outgoing.

Please see our booking terms and conditions (at the bottom of our website pages) for full information.

What methods of payment do you accept?

Our online booking system accepts payment by card.

If you wish to make payment by bank transfer please call us to arrange.

What time can we arrive?

Cottages are made available from 4pm on the day of arrival.

We take great pride in the preparing the cottages to a high standard. We need time to prepare them and our housekeepers can be pretty busy in the time before 4pm.  So we ask that you arrive at any time after 4pm.

Do I need to arrange an arrival time, or meet up with anyone?

There is no need to arrange anything.  Relax and arrive when it suits you after 4pm.

Your key will be in a key locker box by your front door and we will email you the access code before you arrive.

Where can I find a Mountain Weather Forecast?

The weather on the mountains can be quite different to the general forecast so its worth getting a more detailed insight aimed at mountain users.  This link will take you to the Mountain Weather Information Service

How far is it to the shops?

Waitrose is 15 minutes' drive away.

There are excellent small independent shops 5 minutes' drive from us in Crickhowell.

Do you live on site?

We live in the farmhouse which is set a short distance from (and faces away from) the cottages.

This can be quite handy if you need some help but most customers come and go without us seeing each other.

We know that most people prefer this so we like to ensure everything is set up to enable you to be fully independent.

Can we get help and advice on site?

If you need a bit of advice or if something doesn't seem right in the cottage the best way to contact us is to text Julia on 07854 773419.

If we are at home we might pop round, but if we are away then we can call on our housekeeper to help out.

What time do we have to depart?

Cottages should be vacated by 10am on the day of departure (to enable our cleaning to get underway).

Do I need a car?

Most guests travel by car. However there is a train station in Abergavenny, and buses run to llangattock. It is then a walk of approx half a mile to the cottages.  Alternatively Crick Taxi's are very local.

Can charge my EV or Tesla ?

We have a Tesla charger and a Universal Electric Vehicle charger.

These are normally disconnected from power but we power them up if a guest has informed us they will arrive in an EV.

We do charge for access and you need to arrange this with us beforehand so we can check if anyone else has that reserved (we limit it to two guests per charger to avoid lack of access).

We do not allow non-guests to use them (our guests have paid to stay here so we don't want passing users).

Can you suggest a Taxi company?

Crickhowell Taxi's are 01873 811 764.

Can I store my bike?

Yes but it's best with a bit of planning/pre-arranging:

  • We have a secure steel bike locker that can hold 2 or 3 bikes depending on size/type.  Please phone or email Julia to check the key isnt allocated to another guest.

  • Sugarloaf has a good hallway so clean bikes can be put there.  Please let us know in advance so we can put some sheets there to stand them on.

  • Trelawney has a private / enclosed rear terrace.   You'd want to lift bikes through the cottage but it's straightforward.

  • We also have other locked storage places that we can free up for you with a bit of notice.

There is a hose pipe too.

Can I bring my dog?

Please see the individual cottage details and our terms and conditions. We do have some cottages that accept a dog (by prior arrangement) whilst others are strictly pet-free. This is a livestock area so please ensure dogs are on a lead when outdoors on the site. We make a supplemental charge of £20 as a contribution towards extra cleaning and to enable us to ensure high standards.

What's provided?

We try to provide just about everything you should need. Two tea towels will be in the kitchen along with a starter pack that includes: washing up liquid, kitchen roll, toilet roll, basic cleaning products and a few dishwasher tabs to see you through the week if the property you are staying in has a dishwasher. The kitchens all have a comprehensive selection of crockery, utensils and pots and pans. Bathroom towels and dispensed soap.

Cots, High Chairs and Booster seats are available for younger guests free of charge, as are stair gates. You need to state if you require these at the time of booking.

Are heating / electric charges included?

Yes, these are included in the rental cost.

How do I pronounce "Neuadd" ?

"Nye – ath" That's like the beginning of Night and the beginning of Athlete
This is a local pronunciation. There are variants in other parts of Wales.

It means Hall.    "The Neuadd" is a bit of a strange mix of English and Welsh.... "Wenglish"

The names used to be Ty Neuadd (Hall House) which is a welsh vernacular style of house based on a large central room (hall).

We've been "The Stables" and "The Mountain Hotel" but Neuadd came back into use and a previous owner registered "The Neuadd".
